Coping with Challenges by Rozaan Meyers
Challenges can look different for everyone, but patience, encouragement, and support can make a meaningful difference. At Camphill, residents are supported to keep trying, build confidence, and celebrate progress, one step at a time.

Coping with Challenges by Rozaan Meyers
Challenges are a part of life. Here at Camphill Village whether they’re big or small, physical or emotional, each person faces struggles that test their patience, strength, and resilience. In my work, I’ve seen firsthand how challenges can look different for everyone and how powerful support, patience, and persistence can be in helping others cope.
I work with residents who face difficulties with simple tasks like pouring or wrapping due to their physical or cognitive abilities. What might seem like a small task to some can be a major challenge to someone else, and yet it is in these small moments where real progress and courage shine through.
One of the biggest things I have learned is that patience isn't just about waiting, it is about being present, encouraging, and showing the way repeatedly, even when progress is slow. When I sit with a resident struggling to pour a drink or wrap an item, I don’t just guide them. I believe in them. I repeat the steps, adjust the pace, and give them space to try again. Every attempt, even if not perfect, is a step forward.
The truth is, coping with challenges isn’t always about overcoming them instantly. Sometimes, it’s about showing up every day and trying again. It is about creating a safe space where someone feels supported enough to say, “I can’t do this yet,” and know that someone will be there to say, “That’s okay, let’s try together.”
This kind of support helps build confidence. I’ve seen residents go from frustration to pride simply because someone took the time to sit beside them and show them they CAN do it. And that is the heart of coping with challenges knowing we’re not alone, and that progress is possible with the right mindset and the right support.
