When we speak about “how love looks here,” we often think about the care, dedication, and compassion our group home leaders show every single day. Recently, however, we had the opportunity to see another wonderful expression of that love — this time on a Padel court.
For their team-building event, our group home leaders tried their hand at padel for the very first time. While none of them had played before, that didn’t stop them from stepping onto the court with enthusiasm and courage. From the first tentative serves to the bursts of confident rallies, they embraced the experience wholeheartedly. There was laughter at missed shots, cheers for unexpected wins, and constant encouragement echoing across the court.
What stood out most was not athletic ability, but the way they supported one another — celebrating effort over perfection and joy over competition. How love looks here is teammates cheering each other on. How love looks here is courageously trying something new, even when it feels unfamiliar. How love looks here is laughter shared freely and encouragement given generously.
As their manager, it was a gift to witness their unwavering spirits, tenacity, and zest for life in a different space outside of our everyday work. The same warmth and energy they pour into our homes and the lives of those we serve were fully present on the court.
After the game, we gathered for a meal together, continuing the connection and camaraderie around the table. The conversation flowed easily, and the sense of unity was tangible. It was clear that this was more than just a game — it was an opportunity to strengthen bonds, build trust, and celebrate one another.
This day reminded me that the love our leaders show is not confined to their roles — it is who they are. It shows up in their teamwork, their laughter, their resilience, and their willingness to embrace a challenge with open hearts. And if anyone was wondering what love looks like here, on that day it looked a lot like joy, courage, encouragement — and a group of leaders giving their very best swing.
