Strength in Diversity by Priya Singh
The article explores how differences in perception, learning and abilities can become strengths within the Camphill community. It highlights how occupational therapy helps residents find suitable work while creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

The way humans perceive the world around them often differs from one to the next. These differences might affect the way we function in mainstream society, which is not always designed to suit those who perceive, learn, process and function differently from the βnormβ.
Understanding this concept is important in fostering a more inclusive mindset. At Camphill, part of my role as the occupational therapist is assessing the level at which residents perceive and process their environments. This allows me to get a better understanding of where their strengths might lie and what an ideal work placement would be, to highlight and grow their current set of skills and abilities.
The different levels of perception, skill and ability create a dynamic culture that naturally provides opportunity for healthy challenges and symbiotic relationships that help strengthen the individual and the team. At Camphill, we understand how differences in thinking and processing add value, and strive to create an environment where neurodivergent minds are able to thrive.
